Watercolour Classes for Beginners
6.30pm - 8.30pm
Monday evenings from 3rd May until 14th June 2027
£130.00 for six weeks
Always fancied learning how to paint in watercolour?
If you’re a bit nervous about how and where to start with watercolours, then this is the class for you! Absolute beginners are most welcome.
Join me over six weeks, on a Monday evening, sharing a quiet moment for creativity in a busy week. Gain confidence in this medium and enjoy gentle exercises in a relaxed setting, learning a new skill each week.
Taught through easy to follow small painting exercises and demonstrations.
Week 1: Art Materials, Setting Up & Planning your painting
Week 2: Colour, Value & Tone
Week 3: Painting Techniques explained (washes, glazes, mark making)
Week 4, 5 and 6: We’ll look at skies, seas, trees and natural forms (leaves, flowers and still life)
By the end of the course, you will have a greater understanding of this beautiful medium and the confidence to continue painting at home.
When you book, I will send you a materials list (don’t worry it’s not long or expensive - this is the beauty of watercolours!) and answer any other questions you may have.
Join me in a supportive group where I can help you get started. I plan to take groups painting en plein air in the warmer months at the weekend.
About Me:
I studied Italian and History of Art at University College London with a year at The Slade School of Fine Art. I have recently completed a watercolour course at St. Ives School of Art with teaching support.
I have always been passionate about painting and watercolours in particular. Often the entry point for beginners, it can be quite a tricky medium to master due to its mercurial qualities. But this is the joy of watercolours! With very few colours, paper and a few brushes, you can create something really magical. Happy mistakes happen constantly and it can be very exciting - as you will find out. It is such a portable medium, it’s easy to take outdoors and sketch with. You don’t need a lot of room at home and the clear up is very easy.
I’m known for my ‘splodgy watercolours’ as I paint in quite an abstract way. Over the past years I’ve been asked to share my techniques and I can demonstrate this to you on this course.
Above all, this six week course is all about sharing my love for the medium. I want you to come away feeling happy and nourished, with a few tips and tricks under your belt to fuel a lifelong love of painting.
