I often paint using a single, large brush, letting the water and pigments flow together, watching the magic happen. The joy comes in the meditative quality of painting as much as the subject matter - the brush gliding over the paper and the purity of colour that I hope, somehow translates in the paintings.
The moment a drop of intense colour hits a white sheet of paper is one of pure, visceral pleasure for me. ‘I can see it just comes naturally to you,’ a friend said recently, and it’s true that I’ve never wrestled with painting or drawing - it’s always felt like a positive step forward.

A recent move to Painswick has inspired a greater commitment to painting. I feel protected amongst the warm stone buildings, nestled in the prettiest of valleys with views and pathways inviting you to explore the landscapes beyond. These are the fabled landscapes of Laurie Lee after all.
