The Green Room at The Painswick Centre
Behind his the formal oil painting commissions and pieces that hung on the walls of the grand Royal Academy, Turner filled hundreds of sketchbooks with watercolour studies and drawings. He carefully curated and treasured them throughout his life, using them as reference in his artworks.
As a watercolour painter myself, with a loose and impressionistic style, I am delighted to guide you in how to create landscape and skyscape impressions yourself. Free up your technique, use larger brushes, lots of water and enjoy the alchemy of colour mixing and the results on paper.
It is said that Rothko was inspired in his Colour Field paintings by Turner and we will compare their artworks.
Over two hours in The Green Room at The Painswick Centre, I will start with a 15-20 minute powerpoint and discussion about Turner and his techniques, and working from print-outs as inspiration, we will create our own.
