Join me for a Christmassy Cut-Outs mix of history of art and collage workshop inspired by Henri Matisse. Deceptive in their simplicity, the cut-outs achieved both a sculptural quality and an early minimalist abstraction, which would profoundly influence generations of artists to come.
In The Green Room, we’ll spend a relaxing and mindful two hours together, discussing Matisse at the end of his life and the amazing ‘painting with paper’ - an incredible body of work he produced in his eighties.
We’ll be using coloured paper to create our own cut-outs, potentially with a Christmas theme, using the principals and techniques used by the master of colour Matisse. We’ll explore some colour theory, balance and composition and top up our creative and culture tanks before switching off for the holiday season.
