Ground breaking Women in Art: A History of Art Lecture at The Wilson - Saturday 9th May 2pm

£10.00

Join me for a history of art lecture supporting the exhibition Paula Rego: Visions of English Literature:

Ground breaking Women in Art

Check this page to book soon: https://wilsonmuseum.org.uk/whats-on/

Come with me on a journey looking at significant female artists and artworks of the 20th & 21st century. For too long, the history of art has been told through a male lense, often censoring, omitting or ignoring female perspectives and expressions.

Paula Rego’s heartfelt, raw and often jarring artworks are the starting point for this lecture exploring themes of censorship, thwarting, injustice, motherhood and desire. What it is to be a woman and documenting our lives on canvas.

These artists stand in their power, no longer seen as ‘sidekicks’ to their more famous partners - Lee Krasner, Frida Kahlo and Georgia O’Keeffe are examples of artists stepping out from the shadows of their male landscape. Their resilience, fortitude and deep commitment to their craft leaves a lasting legacy on the history of art.
