Guided Tour of the Arts & Crafts Gallery at The Wilson - Sunday 26th April 11.30 - 12.30pm

£10.00

Join me for a guided tour of the Arts & Crafts gallery at The Wilson Museum & Gallery before it’s closure for refurbishment.

Book tickets online here: https://wilsonmuseum.org.uk/event/arts-and-crafts-gallery-tour/

The Wilson holds one of the finest collections of Arts & Crafts furniture, pottery and artefacts in the country.

There has been an Arts & Crafts collection at this museum since the 1930’s and we have been acquiring items ever since, when funding allows.

This museum has played an important role in exhibiting new designs of The Cotswold Guild of Craftsmen. Curator and librarian, D. W Herdman was responsible for establishing a tradition of exhibitions from 1923 and began buying contemporary crafts for the gallery, including works by local Cotswold designers Ernest Gimson and the Barnsley Brothers, laying the basis for the unique collection that you see today.

The local connection to craftsmen made it an obvious choice to house significant pieces and allows us to tell the story of one of the most important design movements that our country has ever seen.

This tour will bring the collection to life - putting the personal stories of these important craftsmen and women at the centre of the story. You will come away with a renewed sense of pride for having such a wonderful collection on our doorstep.
