We have been struck recently by the appetite for traditional tapestries in contemporary interiors. As trends go, we wholeheartedly approve and long may it continue! It’s a great look and one that chimes with the Zardi & Zardi brand.  As a frontrunner in the digital print revolution, we aspire to create products that are sympathetic to the original, whilst being relevant in a contemporary setting - bridging old worlds and new.

When you buy a Tapestry Wall Hanging, a panel of fabric or a length of wallpaper from Zardi & Zardi, you are buying your very own slice of history. We want these rare and elegant designs to continue to grace your homes, not just those of the aristocracy or on the wall of a museum. With a unique portfolio sourced from public and private collections, each design has a fascinating provenance which makes for not only a bold focal point in your room but an excellent talking point too.

Typically designed with a rich colour palette, tapestries bring an indulgent, sophisticated feel to both maximalist and minimalist interiors. The stark contrast between the clean lines of contemporary furniture and the softness of the faded, textural tapestries is a match made in heaven. Tapestry Wall Hangings are a wonderful alternative to paintings, telling historical tales and adding a texture that warms a space. In our view, tapestries elevate the room with a grown-up sophistication, in the same way as antiques, marble, or decorative lighting.

Tapestry Wall Hangings Collection

There are fifty-five unique designs in the Zardi & Zardi Tapestry Wall Hanging Collection, carefully selected from archives for their subject matter and versatility. Some are reduced in scale from the original allowing you to choose a tapestry that fits your desired space (an almost impossible task when searching for an original tapestry). We also offer a bespoke service if our standard-size products do not fit your specifications.

Lake Verdure Tapestry Wall Hanging by Zardi & Zardi. Image credit: Mike Garlick.

Our best-selling Verdure with Birds is a sumptuous scene depicting a lake and mountain scene in the far distance, billowing trees and pink and blue plumed herons in the foreground, framed by an elegant border.  The original tapestry was woven by Raphael de la Planche in Paris between 1625 – 60 in the classic style. Park & Lake Verdure are often sold as a pair. Pleasingly symmetrical in their portrait shape, they are often hung either side of a bed or a fireplace and can fit into a multitude of schemes.

Founder PJ Keeling began the business by digitally printing tapestry reproductions for grand country estates when the original tapestries required cleaning or restoration. Consequently, he was allowed access to both public and private archives from which he has created the Tapestry Wall Hanging Collection and the Capsule Collection of fabrics and wallpapers. With new designs launching at Decorex in the Autumn, this trend shows no signs of slowing down.

Note to Editors: All products are printed to order with a 4-week lead time.

Tapestry wall hangings can be sold as finished goods, ready to hang, or as a printed linen panel.
